"An exceptional track day experience."
Q. What is the American Speed Club?
A. The American Speed Club is the motor sports branch of Premier Event Services, a full service event management team specializing in automotive training and marketing programs for premium brand automotive manufacturers such as Audi, Cadillac, Chrysler’s SRT Division, Ferrari, Michelin and Volvo.
Q. What does the American Speed Club do?
A. The American Speed Club was formed specifically to conduct events in which driving enthusiasts have an opportunity to participate in on-track activities at some of the finest auto racing facilities in North America. These exciting and informative driving events are restricted to non-competitive lapping sessions that further the enjoyment of driving exotic and high performance vehicles in a controlled environment.
Q. How is the American Speed Club different from other track day organizations?
A. The American Speed Club is devoted to an upscale approach designed for a limited number of owners of exotic and high performance vehicles and the dealerships who serve them. Our events maximize a blend of classroom and track time. We use a small, three group format to reduce track congestion. We hire only professional driving coaches who earn their living on the track and behind the wheel. We provide professionally catered trackside hospitality and an optional in-car camera service with limited data acquisition.
Q. How do I sign up for an American Speed Club event?
A. Click on the "Schedule" tab on the left and choose the event you would like to attend. Click the event and you will be directed to the Registration page. You can register online or download the Registration PDF here.
Q. What are the requirements to participate as a driver?
A. You must be 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license to participate as a driver.
Q. How many applications are accepted for an American Speed Club track day?
A. Our format is designed to accommodate three groups of fifteen for a total of forty five drivers on any particular track day.
Q. What if my plans change and I can't attend?
A. When you register for a track day, you remove one or more of those spots from availability to others. Knowing that your plans can change, we will refund you in full if you cancel at least seven days before your track day date. However, should you cancel within seven days of your track day date for whatever reason, you will not receive a refund unless you find someone to take your place, or we are able to resell your reservation.
Q. How much track time can I expect at an American Speed Club event?
A. You can expect 2 to 2.5 hours of actual on-track time depending upon the facility’s operational hours, weather and track conditions.
Q. Who will be my instructors?
A. The American Speed Club provides only professional driving coaches. Our team is comprised entirely of current or former professional racers, instructors and television personalities. Each has extensive instructional experience and exceptional communication skills. We respect that our guests have invested a great deal of time and money into their vehicles. Many of them have travelled long distances and paid a premium to attend our events. We therefore choose to make every aspect of our program as professional as possible.
Q. What race tracks does the American Speed Club visit?
A. For Fall 2009, we have dates booked at the Motor Sports Ranch and Eagles Canyon Raceway in the North Texas area, along with Willow Springs Raceway and Thunderhill Park in southern and northern California. For 2010, we will be planning dates at quality race tracks across the United States. Please check our schedule for dates and details.
Q. How much does a track day cost?
A. The price will vary from track to track and is determined by the particular track’s rental fees along with travel and production costs in the area. Call for pricing.
Q. Is lunch included?
A. Yes. Both breakfast and lunch are included in your American Speed Club event.
Q. Is there a membership fee?
A. No. Although we are called the American Speed “Club”, there are no membership fees at this time.
Q. Will I need a racing helmet?
A. Yes. You will be required to wear a helmet in good, undamaged condition that meets the Snell SA or M95 safety rating. For track (race) prepared vehicles, SA rated helmets are required.
Q. How do I know what skill group to sign up for?
A. There are three groups:
Novice: This class is for drivers who have participated in five or fewer track days, or have participated in multiple track days but still feel uncomfortable around other cars at high speeds.
Intermediate: This class is for drivers who have participated in six track events or more and demonstrate a consistent line and pace. A good Intermediate driver also demonstrates a safe and predictable approach to overtaking slower vehicles and to being overtaken by a faster vehicle
Advanced: This class is for drivers who have completed fifteen track days or more. An Advanced driver must exhibit a quick and consistent pace, excellent car control and a track awareness and competency level that allows for high speed lapping in and around other vehicles at high speeds.
Please be aware, in order to ensure every participant’s enjoyment and safety, that you may be allowed or requested to move to a higher or lower group while at the event. A common sense approach when registering for an event is to simply be honest with us and to yourself. If you are unsure as to what group fits you best, give us a call... we’ll help you decide!
Q. May I bring a guest to watch?
A. Absolutely! If you want your guests to be able to take part in the catered meals, you will need to RSVP on their behalf and expect to pay a nominal fee. Your guest will also be allowed to ride with our professional drivers on demonstration laps.
Q. How do I RSVP for a guest?
A. Until our website is completed, there are two quick and easy ways to RSVP your guest. Either email your request to rex@americanspeedclub.com or call us directly at (817) 313-0731. We will respond as quickly as possible with a confirmation and let you know what additional costs are associated for catering.
Q. May I bring a guest to drive my car?
A. Yes. The additional costs for a second driver will vary per track and per group. If the second driver is simply splitting time with you in your car and in your same group, there will be a nominal fee for the second driver. However, if your friend is going to share your car but drive in a different group, he or she must pay a full registration fee.
Q. May my guest ride in the car with me?
A. Sorry, your guest may not ride in the car with you. The only time two people are in your car on track is when you have requested or have been assigned an instructor.
Q. May I bring someone to video or photograph the event?
A. Yes, you may bring a friend to take simple photos or video. However, you must obtain our prior written consent if you wish to bring in a professional photographer or film crew to record the event. The American Speed Club has contracted to provide professional photography services, as well as in-car camera footage upon request, exclusively for the American Speed Club and our guests.
Q. How much does it cost to have the in-car video?
A. We are currently working to determine the best solution for all parties. Please check back for details.
Q. Is there a lap timer or may I bring my own?
A. We do not provide a lap timer. You may bring your own for the purposes of tracking your personal improvement throughout the day. Please remember that these are strictly non-competitive lapping sessions and that any obvious attempt at dangerous and aggressive driving may lead to expulsion from the event.
Q. Are there data acquisition capabilities?
A. This will be part of the in-car camera service. Please check back for details.
Q. May I drive a convertible?
A. Yes as long as an aftermarket roll bar has been installed or the car came with a pop up style roll over protection system. If your car has neither but you normally are allowed to go on track with this car, call us to discuss details.
Q. What about insurance?
A. The American Speed Club carries substantial General Liability insurance to cover ourselves and the track in case of a mishap on our part; however, each participant must be covered by his or her own automotive policy or a supplemental policy pertaining specifically to this type of vehicle use. Please understand that our insurance policy does not in any way cover any damages that might occur to your vehicle or person. Our insurance only covers damages to the facility.
Q. How far in advance do I need to register?
A. There is no deadline for registration; however, we suggest trying to register as early as possible to avoid disappointment! Registration begins as soon as we have contracted dates for the selected tracks and will be open until we fill all the slots. There are circumstances where other drivers cancel at the last moment, so please contact us if your desired track day is sold out. We will contact you on a first come, first serve basis should any seats become available.
Q. May I reserve a spot now and get back to you with payment later?
A. Yes. If you do not feel comfortable paying online or or do not own a credit card, you can register online and send a check or money order payable to the American Speed Club. Please NOTE: you will have three business days after registering to make payment before that spot becomes available again to anyone.
Q. Does the American Speed Club have a home track?
A. No. We do not presently claim any particular track as a home base. Our program is based on a national format.
Q. Do you offer full-day private coaching?
A. Yes, we can arrange for you to have a private coach for the day. Prior arrangements will need to be made and additional costs are associated with private coaching. Please call for details.
Q. Do you offer any discounts?
A. At this time, considering our abbreviated schedule for 2009, we do not. However, if you would like to attend multiple events or have your car transported to other upcoming American Speed Club track days, we would be happy to discuss details and possibilities.
Q. What do I wear?
A. 100% cotton long sleeve shirt and long pants are required along with closed toe shoes.
Q. May I bring a race prepared car?
A. Noise limitations may preclude race prepared cars at some facilities. Please contact us to discuss the specifics. If you race-prepared car is allowed, it must have a passenger seat on the same row and with equal safety equipment to the driver's seat, and have functional brake lights.
Q. Can one of the Instructors drive my car?
A. No.
Q. What do I need to do to make sure my car is ready for the track?
A. Your car must be thoroughly inspected by yourself, or, if you are not mechanically inclined, by a service facility within a week prior to the event. A brief inspection will also be performed at the track the morning of the event to assure the car, your helmet (if not using an ASC loaner) and your clothing are in compliance and that there are no loose items in the car or trunk.
